FYI: NOT CONFIDENTIAL! I would like to share with you a late but happy victory of another "whistle-blowing" against a very big international organisation, IFRC

Dear All "David's",

I would like to share with you all a late but happy victory of an other "whistle-blowing" (after http://www.ombudsman.europa.eu/decision/en/031875.htm) against a very big international organisation (a real live "David against Goliath"), to give you a bit of strengths not to give up, never... ;-).

Keeping straight and honest will bring you further, them bending your self and others or being a thief...

When I was working for IFRC (International Federation of Red Cross) as Deputy Water Sanitation Co-ordinator for Indonesia in the aftermath of the Tsunami in a family accompanied position. For security reasons (earthquakes) I was most of the time separated from my family. I was based in Banda Ache and my family (my wife a British and my 2y. daughter) remained circa 600 km away in Medan (very big town). During my absence they been treated by two of my former colleagues (delegates) in charge (Swiss and Swedish men) like dirt, putting them even in health danger, as they have darker skins them other Europeans.

ALL decision issued against me and my family by IFRC's senior managements during this case been set aside by ILO-AT without any ifs and doubts!

The Judgement is as well publicly available on the ILO-AT website:
http://www.ilo.org/dyn/triblex/triblexmain.fullText?p_lang=en&p_judgment_no=2796&p_language_code=EN

Very good news in very short:

Overall-Result: IFRC-"Code of Conduct" and Regulations are valid and binding for all employees and all senior management equal! Systems of fear not functioning at least for delegates+families who are coming from countries with some social security systems.
Monetary: IFRC's senior managements inflicted to Red Cross's movement financial damages of nearly EURO40,000, money which will not any more given to necessary emergency aid projects, to people in desperate needs.

- All decisioned done by IFRC been ANNULLED
- Payment of missing salary+allowances until end of contract + 8% interest since 2005 until payment
- Payment for moral damages

In total nearly EURO40,000.

So, keep up your heads and the heat.

Please forward to relevant people.

With Best Regards,

Detlef SCHWAGER

(former Deputy Water Sanitation Co-ordinator in Indonesia)

Last sentences, out of my (Complainant's) concluding Rejoinder:
...
The Defendant’ [IFRC] was not willing to deal with from the beginning accordingly to their own Code of Conduct and Staff Regulations and is running politics to stall the external appeal, to the damage of my family and to the damage of my personal and professional forthcoming (Curriculum Vitae).

I joined the Red Cross as the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, …) are of high value for me very personally, having other experienced made in my life in the Eastern part of Germany, being interrogated for having only an independent mind. I regret, I could not find IFRC’s stated values within this organisation.

Being “overseas-weathered” since 1992 by working in emergency and development settings for EC, INGO’s and private consultants in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean (Ghana, Congo-Zaire, Tanzania and South Africa, North Korea, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Aruba, Netherlands Antilles, Guyana and UK as well) often under very difficult and dangerous conditions and some times accompanied by my small family to, I guess I am seasoned enough to state, that my family and I, never came across non-transparent decision making processes in an intra-corporate climate of fear and unfair treatment like this, created by senior officers of an international aid organisation, which have officially high external and intra-corporate values.
